Community guidelines
FundLink works because people trust that a fundraiser is what it says it is. These rules keep that true. They apply to everyone who raises, gives, or comments here.
Raise honestly
- Say who you are, who the money is for, and what it will be spent on.
- Only raise for a beneficiary who has agreed to it. If you're raising for someone else, say so and name your relationship to them.
- Keep your story accurate. If the situation changes, post an update.
- Use your own photos, or images you have the right to use.
- Spend the money on what you raised it for.
What isn't allowed
- Invented or exaggerated hardship, fabricated medical claims, or made-up beneficiaries.
- Impersonating another person, a family, a hospital, a church, or an organisation.
- Raising for anything illegal, for weapons, for gambling debts, or to pay a fine or bribe.
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, or content targeting a person or group.
- Content involving a child that identifies them without a guardian's consent.
- Investment schemes, loans, or anything promising a return to donors. Donations are gifts, not investments.
- Duplicate fundraisers for the same need across several accounts.
Giving
- Give what you can afford. Donations are final, we can't reverse a gift once it has settled.
- Give through the app or this site only. Nobody from FundLink will ever ask you to send money to a personal number or account.
- Anonymous giving hides your name from the public page, not from us, we keep records for fraud investigations.
Verification and payouts
- A Verified badge means we've checked the organiser's identity. It is not a guarantee of outcome.
- Withdrawing requires identity verification. Organisations verify with registration documents; individuals with a personal ID.
- We may hold a payout while we look into a report. We'll tell you why.
Reporting a fundraiser
If something looks wrong, report it. In the app, open the fundraiser and tap the flag in the top right. Choose a reason and add anything you know, a link to the original photo, another fundraiser with the same story, a name that doesn't match.
You don't need an account to report, and the organiser is never told who reported them.
What happens next
- A moderator reviews it. Reports don't take a fundraiser down automatically, that would make coordinated false reporting an easy weapon against legitimate causes.
- If we need to investigate, we pause the fundraiser. Pausing stops new donations; it doesn't touch money already raised.
- If we find a breach, we close it and work to return remaining funds to donors.
- If we don't, the fundraiser continues and we dismiss the report.
Enforcement
Depending on what we find we may post a correction, pause or close a fundraiser, withhold a payout, or suspend an account. Serious or repeated breaches, and anything resembling organised fraud, can be referred to the relevant authorities.
If we act against your fundraiser we'll tell you which rule was broken. If you think we got it wrong, ask us to look again.
