How it works
Raising takes a few minutes. Giving takes seconds. Here's the whole of it.
Giving to a cause
- Open the fundraiser and tap Donate in the FundLink app.
- Enter the amount and your phone number. You'll get an M-Pesa prompt on your phone, enter your PIN there.
- Where a fundraiser's page shows an M-Pesa paybill, you can also pay it by hand. Use the exact account number shown, so your gift is credited to that fundraiser.
- You can give anonymously; your name is hidden from the public page.
Starting a fundraiser
- Tell the story. Who it's for, what the money does, and what happens if you reach the goal. Specific beats emotional.
- Add photos. Up to six, and you choose which one leads. Real photos raise more than stock ones.
- Set a goal and a deadline. Pick a preset, type a number of days, or choose an end date.
- Publish. A one-time activation fee applies; you'll see the amount first.
Getting your money
- Verify your identity once. Individuals use a national ID or passport; organisations use their certificate of registration.
- Donations to a fundraiser are pooled into that fundraiser's wallet.
- Request a withdrawal to M-Pesa or a bank account. One withdrawal per fundraiser at a time.
- An admin reviews and releases it. Every movement is recorded against the fundraiser.
Sharing
Fundraisers succeed on sharing, not on being listed. Send the link to your WhatsApp groups first, those are the people most likely to give and to pass it on.
Read the community guidelines before you publish. They cover what's allowed and how reporting works.
